The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics). 

There are 2 items that are recommended for the Bio 2101 lab (A&P1):

1) Lab Manual for Human Anatomy & Physiology, a Handson Approach* by Greene, Robinson, and Strong. 1st ed. Pearson Publishing, ISBN:978-01-354-79-391.

2) A recommended item is the textbook that is required for the lecture course: "Human Anatomy & Physiology", 3rd ed by Erin Amerman, Pearson Publishing. If you are not taking the lecture course, any other A&P book can be used as a reference. 

Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

A functioning computer with a webcam is required to take all online exams and quizzes. It is the student's responsibility to have both.

Alternatively, exams may be taken at one of the computer labs on the LSCPA campus.

Corequisite(s): BIOL 2302. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 2301 and BIOL 2101 

1.    Demonstrate an understanding of the general function of the endocrine system including, mechanisms of hormone action, regulation of hormone release, hormone actions, and endocrine glands, and endocrine disorders and treatments. 

2.    Demonstrate an understanding of blood composition, blood functions, blood disorders, heart anatomy and function. 

3.    Demonstrates an understanding of the location of the major arteries and veins of the vascular system as well as the function of the circulatory system.

4.    Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the GI system, the structure and GI functions of the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas, and the various metabolic and nutritional processes involved in digestion.

5.    Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the respiratory, lymphatic, & renal systems.

6.    Demonstrate an understanding of the location and function(s) of the structures of the male and female reproductive structures. 

7.    Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. 

8.    Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete group assignments and/or cover assigned material.

• Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication.

• Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions.

12:01 am on 9/16/26 and will end at 11:59 pm on 9/17/26.

Lab Exam #2 over Arteries, Veins, Blood, & Immunity will begin on 10/7/26 at

12:01 am and will end on 10/8/26 at 11:59 pm.

Lab Exam #3 over Digestive, Respiratory system, and Urinary system will begin at

12:01 am on 11/4/26 and will end at 11:59 pm on 11/5/26.

Lab Exam #4 over Reproductive systems, Human Development will begin at 12:01 am

on 12/2/26 and will end at 11:59 pm on 12/3/26

Calculating LAB Average: Lab Extra Credit (Total 12 points) = (#1 Discussion Board Post/2) + (Group Project/10)

Final Lab Course Average = (Lab Ex1 + Lab Ex2 + Lab Ex3 + Lab Ex4 + Lab Extra Credit) / 4

No grades are dropped when calculating averages. There are NO “re-takes” on any exam or quiz. Exams & quizzes that are not taken well be counted as “0”. 

It is imperative that you check your email 2-3 times per week. Please check your spam or trash folder regularly. 

It is the responsibility of each student to have a RELIABLE computer AND Internet access for the duration of the course. Computer labs at LSCPA are available for use. Please note that some course material may not be accessible using a cell phone and/or tablet device.

Handouts for all labs are posted on the course website. These contain information about the lab topic, indicate the sections of the lab workbook assigned for that lab, references to images posted on the course website, as well as questions over lab content. These lab handouts are designed to provide you guidance on what to study. They are not submitted for grading.

If you miss an exam because of an excused absence, your lowest lab exam score will be used as the score for the exam that you missed. Excused absences include medical and family emergencies and are determined at the instructor's discretion. You can only miss one exam with an excused absence (excluding the final). Poor preparation or conflict with other scheduled exams is not a valid excuse for missing an exam. 

I will not discuss grades over the phone. You may request your grades by e-mail from your Lamar State College-Port Arthur e-mail account (for example, doeja@lamarpa.edu) or by student-instructor conference.
