Instructor Policies

Assignments are due on the dates provided in Blackboard.

Students are responsible for completing any assigned readings, unit exercises and projects, and video viewings.

Office 365 software and reliable Internet access are required for this course. You MUST have this software available to you to complete your work. You can also use the open lab provided in the Gates Library and the Madison Monroe building if needed.  Do not complete assignments, quizzes, or exams on a phone or Chrome book as they will not submit properly. If you have a MAC computer, it will be difficult to complete this course the book is formatted for a windows computer because that is what industry uses.

DO NOT wait until the last minute to complete class work or exams.

Homework can be typed directly or uploaded to Blackboard in a document format.

Students that are disruptive in class will be asked to leave and counted absent for the day.

E-Mail/Voice Mail Etiquette: Students must use appropriate e-mail etiquette when corresponding with instructor; for example, complete sentences and a full subject line with your name/course name. Voice mail messages should be clearly spoken identifying students name, course, and any return phone number.

Taking the Final Exam is required to complete the course.

Every student MUST have their own copy of the required textbooks by the end of the first week of class. The student will still be responsible for any assignments given. There is a in house copy of the textbook in the Gates Library. You will also need supplies to take notes.

This course recognizes that AI tools are increasingly part of the academic and professional landscape. You may use AI tools like Microsoft Copilot for brainstorming, outlining, or getting unstuck in your thinking process. However, the final written product must be substantively your own work.

When you use AI in your process, you must include a brief appendix to your assignment that explains: 1) which tool you used, 2) what prompts you provided, and 3) how you incorporated or modified the AI-generated content. Using AI without this documentation will be considered an academic integrity violation.

Attendance Policy

Poor attendance is a leading reason for termination from a job in all areas of employment. With this factor in mind, the instructor monitors student attendance daily. In addition, attendance on a regular basis is necessary for proper skill development. A tardy is an absence for attendance purposes. 4 absences = one letter grade drop 6 absences = two letter grade drop 8 absences = automatic failure of class Quizzes may be given at the beginning of the class period. Students coming in to class late will not be allowed to take quizzes. A grade of zero will be recorded for the quiz. Students are responsible for completing all assigned homework, including reading assignments, by the required due dates and for being prepared for each class meeting. This applies even if you were absent from the previous class meeting.

Additional Information

To be successful in this course, the student MUST purchase the assigned textbook and log into Blackboard at least 2-3 times weekly.

Regular, reliable access to Blackboard via Internet is required for this course. Attendance is monitored via Blackboard reports of logins and interaction with face-to-face course.
