Upon completion of this course, the aspiring professional will be able to:
1. Analyze and synthesize the literature & research on Physical Activity (PA) to draw conclusions on the thinking, knowledge, and study of various types of; and its perceived benefits, value, social spheres, feelings, and impact on society. (TCC: CT, COM, EQS, TW) (AKA: 1, 2, 3)
2. Investigate the “Field of Kinesiology” to examine its history, philosophy, and sociology; to analyze how research is conducted and to draw conclusions about what it tells us. (TCC: CT, COM, EQS) (AKA: 3)
3. Analyze the various career opportunities within the field to determine interest, and develop basic knowledge, skills, and abilities. [Examples: Teaching, Coaching & Sports Instruction, Sport Management, Sports Medicine, Kinesiologist, Exercise Physiologist, Sports Psychologist, Sports Sociologist, Researcher] (TCC: CT, COM, EQS, TW) (AKA: 4)
4. Apply concepts used within the field to solve problems & model skills, such as synthesizing principles of motor learning, behavior, & development to design a skill development plan; citing evidence from sport & exercise psychology to discuss personality, motivation, arousal, anxiety, group processes, & mental skills training; & applying concepts of biomechanics, kinesiology, & physiology to critique a video skill analysis. 5. Evaluate personal knowledge, skills, and abilities to draw conclusions about what types of work they are best suited for, identify areas of growth needed to obtain these skills, research a Professional Organization associated with the career field, and design a Professional Development plan to strengthen professional knowledge. 6. Analyze what research tells us about inequitable power relations relevant to physical activity, including gender relations, ethnic relations, racial relations, and socioeconomic relations; then apply the results to a fitness-related building project. (TCC: CT, COM, EQS) (AKA: 3, 4)
