Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

Perform with improved vocal technique while displaying a proficient understanding of vocal health and proper use.

Develop careful attention to details - correct notes, rhythms, dynamics, and articulation.

Show attention to appropriate style, phrasing, tone production, and interpretive nuances.

Master six memorized pieces.

Exhibit proper practice methods, focusing on refined posture, proper breathing, and efficient use of the musculoskeletal system.

Perform in a jury and on a recital

Perform a variety of music literature, including at least two foreign language piece.

Exhibit basic to intermediate proficiency in diction and articulation appropriate to level of study.

Memorize multiple songs and/or arias appropriate to private voice study.

Perform a variety of basic to intermediate literature in a jury or other venue as assigned.

Demonstrate basic to intermediate musicality through expressive singing.

Perform music of various cultures and historical periods.

Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication.

Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions.

Teamwork: Students will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal and consider different points of view.

Personal Responsibility: Students will demonstrate the ability to connect choices, actions and consequences to ethical decision-making.

Students will be graded upon the following criteria:

Instructor’s evaluation of the student's attendance and improvement during the semester- 40%

Midterm: Memorization Exam- 20%

Dress Rehearsal and Recital performance 20%.

Final Exam, End of the semester performance in front of Juries. 20%. Specific date TBA.

The final grade is determined solely by the voice instructor.

Students are allowed only three unexcused absences per semester. If you have more than three unexcused absences, the instructor reserves the right to fail you at his discretion. Students are required to notify the instructor no fewer than 24 hours’ notice in advance, excepting documented emergencies, of any lessons that will be missed. Make-up times will be allowed on a case-by-case basis if instructor time and studio space can be arranged. Failure to give proper notice will result in forfeiting the lesson for that week. Students who arrive more than ten minutes late to their scheduled time will forfeit their lesson, as well.

All music assigned to the student by your vocal instructor should be full memorized no later than Friday, March 17.

A Memorization exam will be part of the Midterm exam.
